Z3M Vs Z4 3.0?

Postby as400 » Tue, 13 Jul 2010 12:50:33 UTC

Have £10k to spend, used to have a Z3M years ago which was great in a straight line on a dry road but my driving skills were not good enough to control it in the wet on bends.

The Z4 with a 3 litre engine doesn't seem far behind performance wise.

Which would be the better/ more fun car?

TBH, with the price of fuel, the state of the roads and the sheer volume of traffic, I'd say any Z4 would be as much fun as any other. They'll all have good handling, poise & control - do you really want (and will you be able to use) the straight line thump the M adds? Especially, as you say, the 3.0 isn't that far behind.

Where are we going and why am I in this handbasket?

Prior to the M3 i had a Z4 3.0i and it was quite simply the best car i have ever owned,i honestly miss it and often wonder that i should flog the M3 and buy another one...for me the only gain you will get from the Z3M will be in the power stakes but the 3.0i is such an accomplished package it is hard to beat given the all round ability...the Z4 is a much more modern designed car it moved the game on much further from the Z3..the choice you have cited is a no brainer in my opinion, the Z4 3.0i is a brilliant choice....

I went the other way to Plowy, from a M3 to a Z4. Mine is a coupe which has the later 265bhp engine and to be honest the difference in pace between the two is very minute. Different kind of power delivery, but the Z4 is certainly no slouch and probably handles better. Although that could be down to the M3 being a convertible and twice the age/milage.

Hi, I had an M roadster and hated it, great engine, but was always far to near the edge when driving. small cockpit did not help things on a long run, never been in a z4 so can,t say anything about them, But the M roadster was a total waste of time and money. terry
