E46 slight engine judder

Postby 323conv » Fri, 07 Aug 2009 07:15:15 UTC

I have a 2000 X 323 E46 convertible Step M52.

I have owned this car for 3 years but in the last month it has developed an annoying fault - between 1500 and 2000 revs, the engine seems to judder slightly - almost like a very small missfire - more noticeable when under small load i.e. going up a small incline. If I put my foot down though it is fine. It's like the box isn't sure whether to change up or not. It's not as noticeable in manual mode mainly sport and standard auto mode. It seems to be getting more noticeable now and have no idea what it could be - if I could get some idea from you guys it would be good to know before I take it to my Indy.

I have found a couple of posts regarding this problem from last year mainly on diesels but there seems to be no definitive answer as to what the cause is. There are many 'could-be's' - some suggest gearbox problem, changing gearbox fluid, fuel problem, air filter etc - has anyone found the root cause of this problem please and is it common?

Any advice would be very much appreciated - thanks.

could be engine mounts, also maybe gearbox mounts. you will need to put the old girl on a ramp and have a good look at all the mountings
