X3 leaking.

Postby Bone Digger » Tue, 12 Aug 2008 09:16:43 UTC

Very recently my X3 has developed leaks in two areas.

One is in the front passenger footwell area which I haven't got a clue where it is coming from, and I don't know if happens all the time or just when i am driving.

The other is in the rear drivers side. this one appears to be caused by water passing over the seal on the which is fixed to the body of the car and it causes a puddle on the plastic piece between the door frame and seat. this seal seams to be in good condition so i think the water is landing on this from above. This leak is more obvious when the car is parked so is happening all the time

Anyone have any ideas to how to sort it out any help is appreciated from you guys with different cars as there are not many X3 owners here.

The most common faults with water ingress to the footwells is the door membranes. These are the water proof sound deadening membranes that are stuck to the door skin under the interior door panel. They are stuck down with butyl cord which has a habbit of coming unstuck.

Or if its had work done in the area chances are it has been torn.

Need to get the panels off and check

Have you had a windscreen replaced?

Thanks for the replies guys.

FORZA WEST I have had the panel off (which seems has been off before one screw missing and a scratch where the plug has bee removed). I poured water down the window seal and it was coming out of the spongy material which I assume is the sound proofing ,it didn't seem to be damaged. I fixed in some plastic sheeting to guide water to the bottom of the door and put a slight amount of silicone on the panel push fittings and it seem to be OK now.

Benji I don't know if it has a windscreen replaced, if it has where could i look for the leaks.

I doubt this but is there any chance the water in the front could be from the rear?
