Just thought I would share my thoughts and feedback on the remap Simon did for me at the beginning of the week. As everyone else has said I found Simon to be a very nice bloke, obviously very knowledgeable and thorough. Now to the bit everyone's waiting for. I was already really happy with the way my car drives. It's only done 31,000 miles so really just feels nicely run in. I wasn't looking for max power or torque, just more of the same in terms of how the power is delivered etc. I just wanted the car to be as good as it could be. I certainly haven't been disappointed!
When Simon and I first took the car for a run after the remap my first thoughts were a bit along the lines of 'not sure I can feel much of a difference' because until you press the accelerator a bit further than you normally would in town driving it all feels pretty much the same as before. It's when you ask the car to go that you really feel the difference. The engine feels much more powerful and the acceleration is instantaneous and strongly linear in its delivery. It just pulls harder and with much more urgency than it did before the remap and it all feels very smooth and understated. A strange word to use maybe when you're travelling as rapidly as the engine will now propel you, but that's how it feels to me. There seems to be virtually no throttle or turbo lag and the car just flies in every gear. Simon has given me exactly what I wanted and while I wouldn't say it feels like a new car. it certainly now feels like the car it always wanted to be if that makes sense.
I enjoyed driving my car before the remap, I absolutely love driving it now after Simon has worked his magic on it. If you drive a 330d (or a 320d for that matter) and you're thinking about doing it, don't hesitate - you won't regret it!
PS - not sure what it has done to my fuel consumption as I've been enjoying the new sensation rather a lot this week (still averaging 37 around town) but I will be doing a 300 mile plus journey over the weekend on A,B and motorway roads so I'll reset the OBC and do a comparison after that. |

How the hell are you getting 37mpg round town???
I've also got a 30,000 mile 330cd convertible and round town I get about 27mpg! Cruising I can only manage about 34mpg
I'm looking to get mine remapped very soon as my last car was a 330cd coupe that was superchipped (I got 40mpg in that ) |

If I drove my 330d carefully, I could always manage high 30's round town. Again, being careful, I could get into the 50's on a run. Now I get about 26 round town in my 525d e60 and about 42-46 on a run - still reasonable to me
Glad you are happy with the remap - I am still hesitating as I worry about any long term reliability. My 330d basically died after it turns out it had been remapped - probably badly, but I still worry a little.
If I knew anyone that had a map for any length of time with no problems (2+ years) then I might do a remap too. Until such times... |

Which 330d was this? The saloon and coupe are MUCH lighter than the convertible so are better on the juice. |

Sorry, that was the saloon.
Always amazed me that if I was really careful and sat at about 60mph, then I could see 61mpg. Of course, you get bored of that quite quickly
Great car and if it wasn't for wanting something bigger, then I would have got another |

| on the reliability question, I had simon map my 320cd m sport about 18 months ago. still fine, pulls great, close to 330 teritory. Had done 28k when i bought it, now its done nearly 60k. its been serviced twice at the main dealers with the map on and had other trips in to the dealers for niggels and they seem to have no clue its mapped either (good job as I still have bmw extended warrenty) |

reading some of the comments on here about mpg, i have an m sport 330cd (2006) and can get on average 55 to the gallon on a run and 37 around town.I regularly whack a couple of shots of millers in for good measure and it's running like a dream. |

sir joe soap - your mpg figures are surely the OBC?
Im not aware of E46 330ds reaching more than 50mpg actual - actual means fill up to the max, reset trip, do so mileage and then fill up to the max again. Second fill quantity and trip mileage gives your actual.
I have an error of 10-15% on my fuel economy figure, it said 50mpg at the end of my week of 500 miles but it really gave 43mpg, which is still good the way I boot it around! |

That's better than I get on my 320d but easily achievable.
Simons map improves the mpg if you can resist not putting your foot down that bit more because of it! |
