I'm sure many of you share my pain when we have to brave the cold mornings while sat in our cars freezing. Therefore I am looking in to getting remote start on my car so that I can turn my car on (securely) while enjoying my morning cuppa. I believe I also will have to get an after market alarm as well

Can anyone recommend the cheapest installed set up to achieve this. So far the best i have come across is £400 for a Clifford G5 650 + intellistart fully installed from a place in Dudley. Now im sure that can be beaten?

i have the clifford 650 and intellistart on my golf and it stopped working about a year ago. bit of a gimmick really and also your insurance is not covered if it was stolen whilst running. was also informed by the police once that the law states no vehicle may be left unoccupied with the engine running

you are supposed to have a switch fitted to the gear selector to let it know if its in gear or not. I had mine removed as it kept on making a click when changing gear, you get used to checking the car is in neutral, except 2 times when i forgot and saw the car kangarooing down the road!! pressed the button to stop, the other time it was up against a railing and it just bounced into it!

You can fit a handbrake switch too, though with the pathetic e46 handbrake the car may still take off.

never got it checked out, think it might be something to do with the bonnet switch, it wont start with the bonnet up, and i think the switch under the bonnet is faulty.

really does freak people out when a car starts with no one in it, had many people looking into the car trying to work out whats going on!

Is this correct? I read somewhere that the clifford avantguard (sp?) 5.5 is the first insurance approved alarm system with remote start.
