Where have all the E34's gone?!? Crying or Very sad

My insurance is coming up for renewal on my E36 and I'm not the biggest fan of it, and would love to return to an E34 which I couldnt afford to insure a year ago, but now seen as it'll only been an extra £100 to insure my dream E34 525i tourer I thought I'd see if I could find 1.
So off I go to tesco to buy an auto-trader... Crying or Very sad £3 wasted as only 3 E34's (none of which were tourers)
So i look on the forsale section of here, and Auto-trader online...same sort of issue! Crying or Very sad

I'm beginning to fear the worst...have they all been scrapped? Sad

I'd rather say people know what they have.

As you seem to know yourself, they have much more value in owning than you can get for them selling. Guess people re holding on to them.

I sincerely hope they have not gone to scrappage theme hell

I have to admit I'm holding 4 at the moment. Try pistonheads, there are a few nice examples on there at under a grand. Very nice 540 touring on there the other day.

ok ok, I may have to seriously do some maths on my bank account, turns out I can get insured on that 540i! Very Happy it's £1.5k to do so, but it's do-able!

Just need to work out how much my E36 could fetch... Confused

Also, im not a mechanical guy really at all, I'm very willing to learn and want to!! but I want to be able to have 1 of these cars and keep it in perfect condition, much like that 1 looks....Very Happy how difficult do you guys think that will be? (also probably highly costly?)

If you can wield a spanner to good effect the e34s aren't too bad to work on, at least for the more routine stuff. Parts aren't too expensive, either from dealers/specialist breakers or even motor factors.

If you can do it yourself then parts are readily available and won't break the bank. Loads of breakers around, you can pick up a whole car for not much money and they are surprisingly easy to work on. I knew nothing about cars when I bought my first e34, now I'm able to do nearly anything. There is a lot of info on the web and common jobs have been written up with photos.

If you don't know, post on here and someone will talk you through it, that's how I learned.

I will be a bit jealous if you buy that 540, only a bit though as its only drawback is its automatic. Looks like a minter though and well cared for. Bilstein dampers and eibach springs are what I have on my touring. Very tight set up. Don't rush in though, there will be plenty around, usually a few on ebay too.

One money saving tip. Read the auto-trader BEFORE you buy it! Smile

true, I know it would be amazing, and it looks a fantastic car! But may be I should wait a while and see if a 525 comes along, save a bit of money on the insurance etc, and if it doesnt any time soon then I'm onyl collecting NCB's.
I've just been looking around for 1 latley! That 540 is exactly what the 1 I'm in search for should look like but a manual and a bit cheaper for me to insure etc!

hmm, will have to do some maths and look to see how much the Halifax guy will lend me! haha

That is fantastic - someone go buy it!

If my Golf runabout dies or is stolen/crashed in the next 5 days, it's mine!

There are plenty of e34 tourings on ebay, I also have an e36 which I'm trying to sell as I've found an e34 to go back into, still miss my old 540i (you can click pics under my username to see). They are an awesomw car, but do respect the near 300 bhp as it will bite you if you dont. The V8 noise WILL have you hooked

I can understand the thrill! And don't worry i'd treat it with the upmost repsect! haha! it'd be very well looked after! And i bet they sound A-mazing!! althought the insurance for the V8s is a little out of my range at this time, a V8 may have to wait a year or so! Sad
A 525 would suit me perfectly right now! Smile

Paul, this is going to be such a N00b question, but I used to find cars on ebay, now whenever I look all i get is parts!? Confused Embarassed

How the HELL do you manage to search just vehicles?? (im sooo ashamed im having to ask how to use ebay, i sound like someone who's just discovered the internet!) Sad

Won't be long till a nice 525 turns up, I'm always looking and there are always new, well cared for cars coming up for no money really.

Best way on ebay (I find) is to go down to categories and click on cars, parts and motorcycles, when this opens I have a list of sub categories on the left, first one is cars. This should filter out the dross.

I would keep an eye out on pistonheads though, it's rare you see dogs on there but there are loads on ebay. Folks on piston heads seem to have cared for them more IMHO.

HTH
