Update, if it helps anyone else, I got a good deal with AXA through moneysupermarket.com and it included a 30 quid online discount too which only moneysupermarket offer for AXA, none of the othercomparison websites matched it despite giving AXA quotes too . It was by far the cheapest quote for my car and the named drivers I added, just about 625 after adding a few extras I wanted

According to the description of an eBay item, I need to see if I have pin 15 on my diag socket (on the car).

If it's there, I need ADS. If not, I can use ADS or OBD2...

I think I can guess the answer!

Hi i'm new in this forum!

I'm driving a E46 330XDA Touring and i am thrilled over this fantastic machinery!
Had some problems with the automatic gearbox, and this is now replaced with a new one.

By the way, isi it difficult to remove and clean the EGR valve?

Best regards from Jonxz.

Its diesel, so gets reasonable fuel usage, unlike the big V8s.....however, transmission failures and turbo blowups I think are the most expensive things to pop on the diesels, hence the need to check history carefully. Also think about a third party warranty - Warranty Direct or similar - lots of X drivers have them for the more expensive problems, even if you have to argue about payment, WD have a reasonable name in the industry for paying out. BMW AUCs give the best warranty (no quibbles), but are more expensive to buy for that peace of mind. The X is a complex marvel of electronics and mechanics, and as it gets older things can wear out.......its not cheap to run and look after correctly, but its fabulous to drive and great if you have a family!!!
Hi all,

Went out today and bought some new pulleys for the drive belt tensioner and idle pulleys for my 1994 318i (M43). Got home removed the belts, went to remove the pulley and cannot get the bolt to move, didn't want to force the bolt's as don't want it to snap / break.I was as just wondering if the bolt is a standard thread or reverse thread (Clockwise to unscrew) Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks

Thanks guys, I collected the beast today and all I can say is WOW!! What a ride!!!

More, plus pics, in the next week or so, I promise!!

44- the style of alloy is the old original ellipsoid 17" alloys from the original X5, can't remember the style number, but they are in excellent condition - the tyres though are just the BEST and I will be looking for the 18" version for my 4.8.....Vredestein Wintrac Extremes. I've done around 1000 - 1500 miles on them over the winter, and they were fantastic - they'll apparently fit all the Xes other than the 4.8, unless the X has been modded with bigger calipers / Brembo brakes when you apparently need at least 18", possibly even 19". The main dealer today gave me the new BMW Winter tyre wheel combo booklet - the 4.8 combo they suggest is style 99 star spokes with Dunlop winter tyres. I'm still going to look for my Vredies, though!!!

Olli - thanks so much for the links, I want my winter wheels all sorted by the end of August!!!
I have a 318 and was also thinking of getting a re-map. I asked the question a while ago and Simon from e-maps posted a reply, stating that although power and torque gains are not large, you do also gain improved driveability and slightly better mpg. Apparently the valvetronic engines respond quite well to a re-map, so I will probably go for it.
