Follow me home lights

Postby 320td » Sat, 01 Dec 2007 13:45:46 UTC

Hi just had my new 520d 177 a day now but cant seem to find how to turn the follow me home lights? This is when the car is alarmed / locked the headlights stay on for about 40 odd seconds. For some reason there is something called home lights of iDrive but I set it at 240 seconds and nothing seems to happen?

Under the "Light" section of iDrive I have the following options,

triple turn signal activations,
Daytime running lights
Home lights 0-240 secs
Welcome lights

any help with this would be great.

P.s I'm loving the smoothness of the car, its sooo much better than my 4 pot audit diesel.

After you've turned the engine off, flash your headlights once then just get out and lock the doors. The lights will stay on for the length of time set in the idrive.

Have the same car but touring, although I have had mine for a whole day longer! :)

Yes the follow me home lights do work exactly as described - its just a shame that the welcome lights don't stay on a little longer though

I have only done about 40 miles so far all short journeys but recording 37 mpg - I look forward to actually going somewhere soon......

Agree about smootheness BTW

Yeah I know what you mean the welcome lights look evil!!

I have driven to scotland and back done 800 miles with some breaks in the mid...... got 53 mpg, basically it can go to Edinburgh and back to Bham on a full tank and still have a 150 miles left......bloody amazing!!

Plus its not even broken in yet!

use iDrive to adjust the time the follow me home lights stay on... mine is set to 2mins..... the amount of people at work telling me i have left my lights on is funny!!!

as for the 800miles to a tank! wow! how big is that tank please? what speed are driving at?

Not sure how big the tank is but I was doing a steady 75 from Edinburgh to Manc, got 56mpg using Shell standard diesel, If I use Tesco diesel it gets abit less
