Postby villabmw316 » Wed, 28 Jun 2006 22:23:00 UTC

ive had my dream car for a week and during that week the engine management light comes on one day and off the next,i bought the car private(sold as seen),what could this be? i havn't been to the garage yet as i thought it might be alright but it still comes on,im alittle concerned just incase its serious, with the bad look ive had with cars i cant come to terms if something major is up,is it worth selling already? any help appreciated.thanks

hows the car behaving? any misfires? jerky engine? sluggish? it could be a number of things. dealers charge around £40-£50 for a diag or if you have breakdown cover, call them out for it to be done free. engine management light can come on for various reasons and will have to reset the same way.

I Had the same prob on my 2000 318ci, turned out it was one of the sparkplug cables that was faulty.

get someone to check plugs, and cables.

I think if 1 of the coils was faulty you'd know about it because the engine would be running bad. Get it plugged in by a good indy (usually around £25) they will tell you the fault code, then look into either getting the part/s and doing the job yourself, or get the indy to do it.
