E61 Reversing light failure

Postby skegness60 » Thu, 15 Apr 2010 20:29:46 UTC

:( I have a warning message of reversing light failure on my E61 5 series. Bulb has not failed, but reversing light does not come on when reverse is engaged. What is the problem/remedy? Any advice appreciated.

does you rear washer work?

I think the lights are controled by the same module that does the central locking which is sensative to water ingress

I think Rossman is refering to the rear wiper; normally it does an intermittent wipe but when you select reverse (while wiper is switched on), it will wipe continuously.

Check if that works and also the reversing light fuse (Ihave an E39 so can't help with that one).

Thank you for your thought on this matter. The rear washer/wiper system is fully active. Let me add further that only one reversing light is reported as failed. The bulb check on that side indicates that it is functional but still fails to light when reverse is selected.

Did you have any luck with this problem?

I seem to be having exactly the same thing with my 2006 E61 530d M Sport touring.

Thanks

A local garage diagnosed that the wiring to the right reversing light had suffered a disconnect/breakage in the wiring loom in the roof of my touring E61 530d.To repair it would necessitate stripping the roof lining to access it. Somewhat expensive!! As MOT does not require this connection to be operational, I have left it as is.Regards skegness60

Jeez. This shouldn't be happening, BMW should have learned their lessons before designing the e60/e61 - wiring which isn't suitable for flexible joints. e39 had exactly the same problems with the boot and airbag wiring to front (movable) seats.
It's not leaking oil, it's sweating power...
