E46 replacement key?
Hi. I've only one key for my car and the buttons don't work at all. How do i go about getting a working replacement? Is it main dealer only and how much will it cost. Many thanks.

Have you tried re-initialising the key ? lots of threads on this subject just do a search.
I enquired about a spare key for mine at the dealer (yes you need to go to a dealer) and cost was about £90 if memory serves correctly, you will also need to prduce your V5 document and another form of ID at the time of ordering (and pay in advance, at my dealer anyway).
HTH.

Thanks. I'll try re-initialising if I can find the correct thread. If not I can live with £90 or so;)

Yes, main dealer only at around £100.
You will need V5 (logbook) and second proof of address. (I used my licence)
Key normally takes a 1-2 days to arrive then needs programming to your car via the other key.
(There's some instructions somewhere on the forum, I think)
The dealer did mine for me at the time of collection
I've just noticed tenchiten has mention the same thing

I bought reinitialisation instructions from ebay but it's free on this website, just do a search. I also bought a blank key from a seller on ebay operating out of Hong Kong and a used spare for around £10 also on ebay. I dismantled the used spare and put the electronic bits into the new blank, reinitialised it and it works great.
