Anyone know how to connect an iPhone to a 750?

Postby shez1878 » Fri, 24 Dec 2010 21:37:52 UTC

Having real problems.

I select Bluetooth on iDrive.

Switch Bluetooth on iPhone and it just sits there searching for ages.

Anything I am doing wrong?

What year is your car mate?

Mine is a 2005 facelift. It only pairs with the stupid carphone. My 2003 e46 paired with anything i wanted. Bmw changed the 7 series. Some pre-facelift pairred with anything too but then with the 2005 they took out the AUX and also made the bluetooth only work with the carphone!!!

Disaster!!!!

You are kidding me? You can only use the phones in the 750.....not pair other phones?!

I'm not sure what the previous poster is on about to be honest. Facelift made the Bluetooth much better. All of my phones pair with my 730d just fine.
I use a blackberry and an iPhone.
Have you tried a different phone?

The BT capability of the E65/66 changed in increments, sometimes only months apart, during its production life. Mailman is I expect, referring to the fact - and it is a fact - that early face lift E65s had BT but it was only used to wirelessly connect the dedicated cellphone to the car. If you car has the slide out drawer with the BMW Cellphone and removable SIM holder, you cannot pair any handset with it, even though you see BT on the iDrive menu. The BT isn't for other phones, it's just for the phone in the drawer. Thankfully this was addressed post '05 and if you have the later connecter in the central cubby you have proper BT compatibility. If you can't make this work I'm sure it's something minor - although I can't say what.

Just for reference, as I had a similar problem after picking up my cpo 2006 750i and trying to pair my blackberry bold.

The salesman at the BMW dealer showed me the card that comes with the owners manual and has the PK code on it. Problem is, the code on the card seems to be a generic code such as PK 7781. The correct code is on a white sticker on the bluetooth unit behind the left side trunk cover, about 4 inches above and to the right of the nav unit, it's hidden behind the trunk liner which has to be pulled out a little to view the code. You will need a flashlight to see it.

Aaaahh, very interesting...

I wonder if that's the code I need to pair my BMW handset with the base station when it says log on / register, rather than 0000 given in the manual (assuming that my 2003 730D had a Bluetooth module in that location, but the original module that only links the BMW handsets, nothing else).

Now, just got to figure out how to get the handet off the 'German' language setting......

On another thought, I was always thinking that the Bluetooth module was part of all the gubbins behind the centre iDrive / NAV display, but if its a separate module in the back, can these not be replaced with a later module to allow pairing with any phone, or are my views too simplistic as usual???!

There is a BT module which replaces the dedicated cellphone. But it's US only. It didn't come over here, I guess because of frequencies, bands etc. On a 2003 car you have nowhere to start from. You can get an after market kit plumbed in but it will cost you a lot of money.

Harry,

But am I right in thinking the 2003 models did utilise a limited Bluetooth module to connect the BMW handsets to the base station?

I know they did for 05. On an 03, if a factory BT system is fitted, this will indeed be the case.
