E60 Retrofit TV onto Prof SatNav?

Postby Dayglows » Mon, 18 Feb 2008 15:08:21 UTC

Hi all,

I am new to this forum so please forgive me if this question has been asked before. I have just bought a new E60 5 Series (LCI model) with the Media pack and I wondered if it was possible to retrofit the TV function. If so, where can this be done and how much should I expect it to cost? Also is it a big job? I have read on this forum that retrofitting the SatNav for instance involves a 6 hour reprogram of iDrive. Is it the same for the TV retrofit?

Your help and expertise would be much appreciated.

I did ask the question myself when my 535 was new so when the car itself was quite new 2005 - asked Dealer. Can be done but was big bucks for something I didn't think I would use that much.

Thanks for your reply 535dBoy. Yea I suspect it would be extortionate for BMW to retrofit considering the option price when new. I just wondered if there was another option from a 3rd party that could plug into the existing system.

Do you honestly think you would use it though - the only reason why I asked the question was that mine was in repair and i was running around in an X5 which did have it and thought it was quite good (it was standard on them back then) but not good enough to justify the price

I certainly would use it. About a month ago I was caught in a blizzard on the way home and i was stuck in snow for about 4 hours. Luckily I had a Lexus then with a DVD player in and I just sat and watched DVD's until I was able to move again. There have also been instances where I have been stuck on motorways for hours on end because of accidents etc. And then there is the biggest wait of all, picking the wife up from shopping. I'll be 5 minutes doesn't really mean 5 minutes. I used the DVD player in the Lexus so many times whilst waiting that I do believe it would be worth the extra cost.

I have also considered the alternative of buying a portable TV which would be much cheaper and just as good no doubt.
