Airbag reset with BM Technic cable - error codes?

Postby moog999 » Fri, 14 Dec 2012 20:06:26 UTC

Like an idiot I went and installed logic 7 tweeters in my E61 without disconnecting the battery first which resulted in me triggering the airbag warning lights. Very annoying.

So I bought, and received today, the BM technic OBD cable and software. Just had a go at resetting the error codes but it still pings on.

Now I'm assuming, and hoping I have disturbed the wiring somewhere and will take the door cards off again tomorrow to have a good luck.

I just wondered if anyone can tell me what these error codes mean?

Oh and, blatant plug, but once I've got this cleared I no longer need the cable, for sale if anyone's interested.

When I installed tweeters I accidently pulled the wire from the air bag on both sides really easy to do as its so short luckily i disconected the battery on mine but i bet you have slightly pulled one of the airbag plugs.

Airbag light..

Turn ignition on, reset code, clear IM and then turn off car.

Then turn car back on.

I have done it in the past on mine when I had a random error.

If that fails. Clear the code when the car is running

With great relief I can report this was the problem - the drivers side airbag module was disconnected. Not to self; don't be such a hamfisted moron next time!!

Thanks for that tip Rick as it wouldn't clear unless the engine was running.

All sorted now, no error codes reported :)

One thing I noticed though. This time I did disconnect the battery, just to be sure, and the neg terminal screw wasn't even finger tight. This surprised me given it was in with BMW on Monday gone for the battery cable recall, the battery cable looked completed untouched btw. I wouldn't be sprised if they just washed, vac'd it then invoiced BMW hq for an hours labour.

The battery recall doesn't affect the battery terminals. There is another plug under the boot carpet right up near the rear seats

Interesting, cheers.

I'll not feel too aggrieved then!
