E61 lci angel eye bulb help!!!! Wrong one ordered see pics

Postby adamtabiner » Sun, 18 Nov 2012 07:46:13 UTC

I have just had the headlights off my 08 reg e61 lci 525 to replace headlights and angel eyes. And thought after doing quite a bit of research I had the correct angel eyes h8! Inc,uding the manual stating this. However when trying to fit the bulbs I cannot see a way that these will fit, see photos.

Can anyone help on this please and advise if they do fit in some way or the correct type of bulb / best bulb for angel

How do I attach photos?

See this link for photos.

Oh dear this is so misleading and the manual doesn't help as for the lci cars I think it's generic  So I am guessing you have halogen headlights which means although your car is an lci you will have the horrible brown cone type angel eye bulbs as below

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg4 ... mage-2.jpg

Theses can be replaced by this type of led

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg4 ... /image.jpg

The H8 bulbs seem to be fitted to lci cars with adaptive xenons only as my my previous pre lci 535 also had adaptive xenons but still had the horrible brown cone type angel eyes. The easiest way to tell is to try and remove the headlight back cover and shine a decent torch inside, you should then be able to see the brown plastic cone type.

Just send your H8 LEDs back if its any consolation your not the first to be caught out I am afraid :?

Hi, can't see the pics, but If you have a small brown cone reflector with the bulb sealed inside it, then that's the LCI halogen set up. You can replace the bulb, but it involves cutting it out of the reflector unit. I just replaced one of mine this weekend, but with the standard sealed BMW reflector unit.

Have a look at this thread which might help, also there's loads of threads on here with examples of owners' various upgrades etc. Many have upgraded to after market LEDs with varying success, as getting a genuinely bright daytime result seems to be hard without the Xenon set up.

Hello. Yes I do have the brown cone type which does remove. I had the headlights out to replace all the bulbs! Gutted!!!

Do you know what bulb type the replacements are then so I can have a look about! Any recommendations for best brightness whiteness.???

Thanks again

Check my pics the second link is the led type replacement unfortunately they don't go up very high on wattage 10w seems to be the highest as below

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-BMW-E39-E ... 43b2482cc6

You will never get them as bright as the new BMW type even the H8's don't go up that bright. So you may struggle to see them during the day especially in direct sunlight

I suffered your fate and done the job twice, so your not alone (I also had the brown cones)

I put 6w Cree LED's in
Overall pretty disappointed, however they look better than the old ones against HIds

Image

With HIds

Sorry pictures taken with IPhone + bumper left in garage for the stealth look
One bulb easy enough, the second bulb was almost melted to the mounting and took several step backs and walks around the garage to get out
Gee! What I used manage to do all night, now takes me all night !!
Found what I couldn't find!

Ok thanks folks! Is it worth the money then to upgrade? Looking at £50ish is that right? Maximum i can find is 10w as well.

Also anyone replaced the h7 dipped and main beam bulbs / any good results, bulb recommendations for a brighter xenon look?

I think (it's possibly just me) but the 10w are for the h8 replacement and not suitable for the cone type installation
When I looked (a week and a half ago) 6w was the brightest the bay had to offer +\- £50 but did see the Cree 10w ones but think they protrude too much so rather than get the wrong ones twice, I erred on the side of caution.

But I'd be curious to find out, undecided if worth the expense and hassle, though if updating the bulbs to brighter whiter units its more unison if there both the same colour

Ps
Amazon do them for £40 + free delivery

They look the same or similar size to the ones I fitted on my previous 535d.

Tsk!
Now ordinarily I would be tempted, but I think I shall hold off until someone else tries them, thinking back the other thing that put me off was the fitting was the inline ballasts but now I'm making excuses

That's just an angled connector on the back of the original lamp, what inline ballasts that's old school ? Only find them on hid upgrades
