E39 ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.

Postby Raaid » Mon, 09 Jan 2012 16:04:12 UTC

When changing the battery on my E39, I accidentally shorted the positive terminal, after which the radio and automatic aircon unit do not switch on.
It seems a relay has been damaged – but which one and where is it located?

Advice appreciated.

Obviously you have checked the fuses?

Thanks eddiec. I had not seen the wiring diagrams before - very useful.

Thank you Clavurion. No, I have not checked the fuses - my eyesight is not too good up close.
I have since downloaded a chart showing the fuses in the glove compartment and see that you refer to the Aircon fuses 9 and 20 there. I'll check those out, and F56 in the boot. Thanks again.

Iirc, some relays are behind the glovebox, and there may be yet more under the n/s cabin pollen filter housing in addition to any in the o/s of the boot.
Never underestimate the power of thrawn.

We found replaced u/s fuses in the glove box and as a result the auto aircon unit is now working.
The Blaupunkt Business RDS radio, however, is not.
All fuses above the battery in the boot are OK.

Is there a fuse behind the radio?
