E60 530D Front right parking light failure

Postby chr15gb » Mon, 02 Jan 2012 08:43:01 UTC

Weird, as soon as it turn the ignition key I get a warning light and message, front right parking light failure.

The front lights are fine but maybe it is on its way out.
Which light is it referring to, headlight or sidelight?

Headlights were changed a short while ago for some Halford jobs, I hope it isn't them (i did wear gloves when fitting).

I have some LEDs for the sidelights so maybe a food time to change them over.

Parking.g lights are side lights. If you put led bulbs in you'll have warning lights all the time as the bulb warning.g system works on electrical resistance!

Side lights are working fine (and are the original halogens).
My old car (Saab) had a system like this, you can rest assured that once the warning appears, it isn't going to be long before the lamp fails.

The LED's I bought are fitted with a load resistor to prevent errors (ha!), time will tell.

Having changed the headlights, I am not looking forward to doing the LED's, at least if this one does fail it will force me into taking action.

It wont be long till it goes? From memory they're a pig to get at? Might be easier to paint mark the mtg srews and remove the headlights!

I tried to remove the front right headlight when I changed the headlight bulbs.
I couldn't manoevre the headlight past the Grille at the front, only an inch or less but enough to prevent me damaging something if I forced it any more.

Hi there..I've got the same issue..except it's the front left. Its intermittent though..when I mentioned it to my Indy he told me to have a look at the lights the next time I got the message to see which of the two angel eye rings it effects. I've done that and it's the inner ring..on most beemers it is a yellow colour but on mine it's a white xenon light..not sure if this is a simple bulb that will need replacing or some other expensive setup? Does anyone know? Thanks

I had this on my E61 which is a 2007 LCI model and it was the angel eye bulb that had failed, easy to replace. I think pre LCI ones had a bulb for each ring though.

Its the angel eye pain to replace as you cant get your hands in on the pre lci cars especially if you have xenon's. Headlights out I'm afraid 20mins per side max see you tube for a video on how to do it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9J2WhcvenY&feature=fvsr They do come out its just a little giggle at an angle to clear the grill / bodywork. If you fit led's make sure they have the built in resistor otherwise you will get constant bulb failure warning. Be careful what you buy from ebay as some don't fit tight enough to illuminate the whole angel eye ring properly and it is possible to fit them 180 degress out! believe me  This is where mine came from http://www.hids4u.co.uk/bmw-angel-eye-l ... de-lights/ and they fit perfect with no errors, not as bright as standard but match well with my xenon's

I get the same on my 530d e60 and my bulbs are all working also a friend of mine had the same problem, it drove him nuts so took it to a BMW dealer who told him to ignore it as it is common for this warning when the lights are ok. he has now installed L.E.D.`s with error free and no more warnings so i will also be doing the same.

I did end up changing mine for LED's.
The parking light was intermittent, sometimes it worked, others not. It was blackened when I removed it.

The replacement wasn't as bad as I thought. I had learned my lesson so stuffed a tea towel under the rear of the headlight to prevent the cap falling into the engine bay.
In fact, you can see where they align by looking through the front of the headlight

I changed them for these, I think they look great at night, and no errors at all. Simple.
