Terry, welcome. As far as I know you dont have to worry about the flaps on the newer (post March 07) engine. They are generally good for 70K miles even with the old design. Someone with more diesel knowledge will be along soon. How bout some pictures in the mean time?

Mine had the Mk2 version of the flaps in, and I have removed them.

There are a few reports of the MK2 flaps failing but its rare. -- The way i looked at it is if there not in there they cant fail.

Lovely example. This is exactly what I'll be going for next time. As we now have a barking panting sniffer. Just one question. Does the rear quarter lights open? Just thinking it would be more comfortable for the dog if they did.

hi, I don,t know if the rear quarter lights do open, but i have two pugs and took a long hard look at the a/c vents for them and all was find. I plan to use window guards when the car is parked with the dogs inside. these allow the windows to be part open yet no one can put their hand inside the car. I used them on my old land rover for years. one other thing you maybe able to do is have a rear metal guard made up for the rear window which as you know opens without the main rear door being open.
michael.
and yes i am very happy with the car like new inside and out, one owner, 15000 miles, full service, mind you had to travel to london to get it, dealers here have older cars, more miles and yet want 6000 pounds more for it,

Thanks for the reply, I'll have a look at the AC vents next time i'm at the dealers. I have only left Alfie in the car for 5 mins. no longer, I too leave all the windows part open but without the window guards. Strangely enough no one can get there hands in the car. I'm lucky to get back in myself

I'll have a look at the window guards as well. I suspect Halfords will stock them.

Terry, I remember seeing your car on the BMW website, I thought it was very cheap at the time. Well done on the purchase.

Dave, the rear quarters do not open but you could, like me, get one with a panoramic roof. The rear part can be left on vent which will ventilate the rear of the car to an extent, it doesnt let the rain in and seems more secure than leaving windows open.

Thanks for the advice kleynie. A panoramic roof must be as rare as hens teeth. There was some pics. of a members car not so long ago and that had panoramic roof. Was that yours?

It may well have been mine, cant remember. It took me ages to find one but I'm glad I did. They can be problematic on the pre lci but I have the updated cassette which should be more reliable. Here is a picture of mine on vent when it was in the showroom:

hi kleynie
Yes it was a good buy, i have been looking for sometime for a touring, saw this one rang the dealer up and went up to see the same day, worth the 260 mile round trip. mind you he had some great cars, in as new condition, but the touring won over due to the dogs, or i would be on the porsche forum now. terry
