BMW 530i 2007 (Auto) Repeated Engine Faults
I bought a 530i 2007 (Auto) about a year ago and largely love it but I've had a couple of faults and wondered if anyone else had experience this or have any advice.
A couple of months after I got it and again about a month ago I got the amber Engine Malfunction light coming up. This resulted in the car running sluggishly (misfiring???). On both occasions I took it back to a dealer to be repaired (under warranty). Just a few days ago I had an Engine Fault light and message 'Engine Fault! Reduced Power' and it kept cutting out on the last couple of miles home. Been away for a few days so not tried to drive it until today but the light's still there and it sounds the same. Planning to take it back to the dealer but just wondering if anyone can provide any guidance.

If it keeps coming up with theses faults and the dealer is unable to fix it, I would ask to exchange it for another one at no cost.
There is obviously something not right and it's not something I personally would put up with.

It could be something as simple as plug coil or maybe even an injector. If it was my car I'd get it to a good BMW Specialist (Independent) and get the fault codes read - bound to be some stored - and go from there.
Good luck, I've had a similar fault. IIRC I just replaced plug and coil and problem resolved!

The way I read it, is that it's still under warranty from the dealer.

If your car is still under warranty then the dealership (BMW?) should be able to diagnose, identify and rectify the fault at no cost to you. They'll probably try to fob you off though, so it's really down to how determined you are. If you're dissatisfied with the treatment you receive then get something down in writing to the Dealer Principal.
(Just my 2p worth of course!)

Thanks for the replies. It was under warranty but no more:-( It's been to the dealership twice under warranty to fix the Engine Malfunction light issue. The last time they seemed to suggest it was a problem with the ignition firing out to sequence. I'll try to dealership to get some more details and if that fails will locate a good (BMW) independent.

Having exactly the same problem with a 2007 525i.
It is currently with BMW who have diagnosied all 6 coilpacks *and* the DME to be at fault?! How can all 6 coils go at once?

How much is that going to cost?
Do you think it's an inherent problem?

They can - especially if it's a Renau*t!! I had one go on the wife's Scenic some years ago. Only 27k on the clock, but 4 years old (FSH etc). I thought it odd that the $tealer had one in stock, and noticed it was different to the originals - it seems there was a poor batch made. $tealer would give me 20% discount, but would only replace all four "because the others will go soon". I had a sense of humour failure and said that coils should last longer than the spark plugs and Renau*t should pay. $tealer wouldn't budge but offered me a phone call Renau*t. Five minutes later the car was booked in for replacement FOC, but they didn't have 4. Sure enough, on the way home, another one went!! So it does happen. To French cars.

Get in touch with consumer direct, as i'm fairly certain the dealer is still under obligation to rectify the fault with no charge to you as they've had it in twice and failed so far.
