one side or both? Can you make it squeak by rocking the back of the car?
May be ball joints - what's on the clock?

Why not take it back where you bought it from?

Possibly a shock absorber or the suspension bushes.

Rear lower balljoint causes that noise. Very common issue.
Renew both sides while you're at it & check wishbone arms & guiding links very closely...

Kind Regards,
Eddie.

Almost certainly lower balljoint.

Reasonably cheap part, but you do need a special puller to change it. I made one myself, PM me your email address if you want a dimensioned sketch to work from.

Item number 2 in the page below is your most likely source of the squeak. Trailing arm ball joint.

I've also got this problem - told the local garage who've called me back to say that it could be two ball joints that need replacing - and a suspension arm!? Never seen either of those suggestions posted anywhere - has anyone who's done this ever replaced more than just the one joint?

According to my BMW mechanic in Seoul, Korea, it is not the balljoints, but the "struts" that must be changed at a cost of US$1,200. It did not help....

Thanks got this done. No more squeaky Beemer.

Both lower ball joints done at cost of £371.70 including parts, labour, vat and the KDS 4 wheel alignment from TCS High Wycombe.

I previously posted a very similar problem on my wife's 2009 328i and the consensus seems to be that replacing the rear lower ball joints will fix the problem. Being in Seoul, South Korea, I have a language problem in terms of telling the BMW Service Center what to do. They are suggesting replacing either the "Wheel Carrier Ball Joints" or the "Stirring Arm with Ball Joint", whichever I prefer (the garage has no idea how to fix the problem and will do whatever I tell them to do).

If anyone can help, that would be great.

Suggest you take it to a competent independent garage that specialises in BMW's the common failure tends to be the lower ball joints and bush assembly as pointed out by bert7715. My vehicle is a 2005 525d e60 with over 100k on the clock but seen newer 09 plates with the exact same noise. It really depends on how loud the squeak is, whether you can live with it or if it is causing premature tyre wear. Having said that bushes once a car gets of age tend to degrade. You can either fix as and when you have a problem or overhaul all the aged suspension components. Others have had success re-greasing the bushes but only for the problem to return after a few months. Now I need to identify a similar creaking/squeaking noise from our Focus TDCi this time at the front of car. Good luck.
