Posted a problem yesterday, OVER REVING!! been in car today, when starting car large amount of smoke comes from exhaust. when standing for a few minutes then rev engine more smoke comes out. the rev needle
is to high about 800 revs on idle, also seems lumpy idle. could this be Mass air flow meter faulty and over fueling? i havnt had any replies to last thread may have some luck with this one, are you all still out there? Kind regards megamitch.

As Arvi says it sounds like the diaphram in the pcv valve has split causes rough idle and a smokie exhaust

smoking exhaust
Thanks for your reply, Its quite a worrying thing to see smoke coming out your exhaust. It reminds me of when i had a cortina, i thought those days were long gone. You say something may have split, what is the pcv you mention and where is it located, what does it look like? I realy appreciate your time, Kind regards megamitch, I am in Margate.

Thanks So much Problem solved!!
To the guys who gave me first class advice, I would like to thank, as this would have cost me At least £150 to be diagnosed and repaired by specialist,. Yes it was the oil/air seperator on the rear of the plenum camber, i removed and fitted the new one myself Cost £36 trade from Mr BMW inc vat, it is quite a difficult job, in respect there is not a lot of room to get your hands into, its all done by feel as you cant see the retaining bolts. All is well now after 2hrs of painfull fiddly messing about. Car now A1 ok!! Thanks again megamitch. i hope one day i can repay.

Hi, the smoke came straight away, I actualy thought the car was on fire in my garage, i reversed quick and turned the bloody thing off!. i was baffled. i waited 20 mins the started upagain more smoke came out. i drove the car as normal, expecting a big ball of flames!! the car drove normal. no smoke. the next day the same thing happened, more smoke, bad idle speed, lumpy as :banned:. when driving, its normal. i then posted my problem , i was saved by some great replies, i did think it was an insurance job comming right up!! Even my local BMW independant specialist was wondering what it could be. But if there is someone thats had this problem before and we have the power of this forum and the net we can sure keep our bills to a minimum, Thanks again Guys!! Kind regards : megamitch.
i hope this helps matey.
