Error Code 4580 - Problem Still There

Postby mystic_528 » Thu, 27 Sep 2012 15:33:45 UTC

320d manual 2002 saloon remapped, full decat

Following on from the above thread a few months ago, i still have error code 4580 Rail Pressure Sensor - Plausibility -Pressure too High, according to the data on inpa my fuel pressure is too high in my fuel rail. I replaced the fuel rail, sensor and regulator with a second hand one from a 2007 320d. It improved it a bit, before the engine light came on as soon as i started the engine but now it only comes on when i drive it and it goes above 2000 revs as if when the turbo is kicking in. Due to my turbo packing in it has been replaced with a refurbished unit but this error remains.

so can anyone suggest what to check next, google searches reveal very little worth mentioning

so things been done -
checked fuel supply and return pipes for blockage, none found
replaced fuel filter
replaced fuel rail with sensor and regulator
replaced turbo (unrelated)

Talk to the remapper!
Until you've driven a modern diesel of this calibre, you just won't get it!

no idea who it was and i fell out the the previous owner. The problem intitially arose when i tried some home made bio and within a few miles my problems began. All that has been cleared out months ago , tank drained and new filter etc.

Does your fuel filter have the pressure sensor on top of the housing, may be your bio messed it up

no its just a cyclinder type filter under the car. The error is meant to be from the pressure sensor in the fuel rail and thats been replaced with a second hand one.

Thanks for the reply mate, it was the one at the end of the fuel rail, i got a complete fuel rail second hand so changed the rail, regulator and sensor.Does this system have a regulator on the hpfp?

Ah cheers I did not associate the measuring as regulator. Is it likely this can be checked as being the culprit rather than just replacing it and hoping I get lucky.

if you have DIS its got special test which test this part. Other way is just to change it. I newer bower with test, I have brand new unit which is used for testing. And its the same part for 2liter, 3liter, 2,5liter deasels.

This is only an educated guess. What bar is your turbo running at after the remap? In my opinion it's not good to change things on the exhaust of a mapped diesel, this I due to the fact the back pressure is changed in the system so it'll mess up how an when the turbo spools up, so if the car is asking for example 1.5 bar of boost, but the turbo is giving 1.6 bar, the car will increase the fueling hence this may be putting your eml do to the increased fuel pressure being more than the car desires!

i have no idea about turbo pressures etc but i do know this problem is related to dodgy bio diesel i used.

Hi mate, i finally got dis working, i had to resort to installing xp on my laptop which was not an easy task. [:D]

can you tell me what i need to do to test the regulator on the HPFP using dis, i managed to display the live data of the fuel rail pressure, actual and expected values. Needless to say the actual pressure was way high. Is this the test you had in mind??

No you need to go to special test menu or folow actual fault so dis will take where you need.

ok i dont this, it comes up with a lot of troubleshooting questions, is this correct?? Anyway it does not seem to do an actual test of this regulator, at the end it asks me if the lines are ok between the dde unit and the regulator valve. So it does not give me a definite answer.

Any ideas, am i on the correct section.??
