E93 convertible - roof problems ?

Postby dave635 » Tue, 06 Dec 2011 23:37:44 UTC

Hi, thinking of getting into an E93 conv in the spring, have a couple of mates telling me to steer clear as the folding metal roof is prone to creaking/groaning/leaking.

Not decided on engine yet but probably looking at a 2008/9 model, as the roof mechanism is the same for all i'm looking for comments from owners on any issues with unwanted noises & leaks.

thanks,

Dave.

New one on me. I've had mine more than 3 years and it's excellent in every way. Basically, an awesome car all round, 335i. The roof is, frankly, a work of art.

Have heard of the roof leaking due to the rubber seals drying out , but think this may only apply to early models .Interesting thread here , eventually turned out the roof was twisted .

thanks guys, so far one positive & one negative. Reading the linked post above was pretty disheartening.

Looking for some more comments, especially with the winter weather starting to hit.

Cheers,

Dave.

Hi Dave,

As with all forums, when you do a search it will only bring up threads where people have had issues (Take the 320d Swirl flaps for example), people dont tend to start a thread because their car is performing exactly how it should. With that in mind, for every negative comment you find, there are probably 100's of cars that are totally fine.....

I've not had an E93, but i'm on my 3rd E90/1, and my next car will be another!

As said already , there is always a higher ratio of posts about faults than of no problems at all, so don t let that put you off, they are superb cars :)
