120d rear washer problems

Postby steviedawson » Tue, 28 Dec 2010 17:36:00 UTC

Hello :D

I'm having a problem with my rear wash wiper. i'm a bit crap when it comes to cars so dont be laughing lol. anyway this is what's happening.....

When i go to clean my rear window the wash pump pulses on/off every couple of seconds for about 6 times or so when i push the stick away from me, no water comes out at all. The front window wipers work ok, the wash pumps doesnt pulsate like the rear. Are there different pumps for rear/front wipers also are there two different water tanks??

thanks for your help,

stevie :D

The rear wiper on the 1er only pumps when the arm is travelling in one direction, hence the pulsing. Whose :banned: idea that was I'll never know!

Things that can make it better (in cost order):

Later 1ers had a twin nozzle so twice as much water per stroke. The parts are cheap and this has done it for me.
If you don't like that then dealers I believe can reprogramme the system to pump continuously.

Oh, and there's only one water tank, in the wing behind front wheel on drivers side.

Good news.

Found the problem. Pipe disconnected from a push on fitting. Which also explains why i was getting water in my boot. Any how i can now add that to my lessons learned for the day lol

Sorry, I missed the "no water" bit. Mine did the same but you could see the water coming out of the bottom of the tailgate so a dead giveaway.

Pleased its sorted.
