Media package.. BMW professional

Postby Hondavee4 » Sun, 19 Aug 2012 20:12:04 UTC

Got me eye on one or 2 330d's but what is Media package.. BMW professional? Does that include iPod connection and (or) telephone blue tooth connection or neither? Ideally I'd like both with idrive...

Cheers

Its got Bluetooth. BMW Professional has a bigger screen for the Sat Nav and the maps are a bit more detailed. If you want iPod connection you would have to get the iPod cable from BMW or use the Aux-In socket.

If they have the USB audio option then it's simple. You just buy a Y iPod cable from the stealer for a few quid and plug your iPod/iPhone in (or music on a USB stick) into the cable inside the armrest and away you go. All the music appears on the screen, you can navigate the menus with the steering controls etc, easy. If you don't have USB audio you can get it retrofitted but it's big bucks - around £1000 at the stealer. The cheaper option is the BMW iPod cable which goes from the back of the stereo into the glovebox and works like a 'virtual' CD changer, except instead of the different discs it allows you to navigate though different playlists and artist/title/albums on your iPod. This is what I have in my E65.

The USB audio option is the best, but it's big money.

That sounds like what my mate had done, they quoted him over a grand for one thing so that's that then. Thanks for that

Is it £400 through BMW?

Is this cable referred as the Y cable?

I'd like to get my iPhone playing through the stereo in my E92 (with Nav)

There is a Aux in the arm rest but it's rubbish quality, although the cables was using Is not very good.

No, the Y cable is the one that connects the iPod to the USB port in the armrest (if fitted). If you only have an Aux in port then you have the option of retrofitting the USB port (££££££) or the BMW iPod interface adapter which is is cable fitted into the back of the stereo via the glovebox.

Yes £400 for a retro fit of the iPod adaptor in the glove box by a BMW dealer. I had it done on my 3 series.

So if there is a USB in the glove box I am in business, if not there's no advantage in retro fitting it over getting a dealer to fit the cable in glove box is there?

The Pro Nav system has the built in hard drive to store music on (80gb I thought...) but it's not as flexible as the iPod adapter. It doesn't seem to have the ability to make playlists and album tracks are arranged and played alphabetically which is irritating. The sound quality is better though. I've not loaded much onto it though and tend to use the iPod.

The USB in the glove box (fixed one in the right hand edge) allows you to upload music from a stick to the HD but you can't play an iPod through it but you can charge from it. As mentioned before it needs the aux and USB in the armrest or the retrofit kit play the iPod.
Nothing to see here......

if you want ipod compatibility then get yourself a dension gateway 500, as long as you have cd changer prep you'll be able to hook up an ipod, usb device or a slightly better aux input. I've installed one on my 535d, it allows me to listen to/charge my ipod and ipad and I have a 64gb usb key permenantly installed with my entire music collection on it
